Updates:

Looking for feedback into styles of horse heads and accessories you might want added. These are painter interpretations of burial mounds found in Russia.

Things like blankets on the horses, decorative touches, things that scream I need gold colors.

Progress Behind the Scenes

So we have a conundrum that we wanted to explore. Do you as the backers want to delve more into the Scythian side of mounts and horses, featuring more decorative elements on light horses or do we want to blend in Sarmatian elements which start incorporating more of the scale and armor aspects to the armor? IE to include cataphract styles or not.

One improvised piece of armor I found in my research was effectively padding/armor in the front of the horse. Sarmatians and Scythians would have enjoyed

Sarmatians

Scythians and Sarmatians had a history of wars against one another and integration of tribesman. Style in horsemanship was similar, featuring speed and min/max armor weight ratios in terms of scale armor. Both had a fondness of gold.

Modifications to Scythian Two Handed Spears

We originally had a two piece solution to the two handed weapons, Tim took some extra time, and toiled tirelessly to get the LOD angles to produce these 4 iterations of spears. No awkwardness trying to balance two pieces with arm alignments.

Where are We At?

Precision prints on the Scythians and Amazons are underway. These should give us a last concise put together, and the ability to send them off for painting. This means we can plot files to a 6x9 sprue, and go from there. In spirit of sharing, we will show you guys about the same time. Satyrs as well.

We appreciate your wait. In total there is about 3-4 gigs worth of files. Its a bit of a project.

Updates on Spears and Improved Tweaks to Scythians and Amazons, Funding Confirmed for 4th mold, Cavalry.

Nice and easy day today. We have some spear variants showing off the new chain and tunic combo. This one needed a few test prints, and we've adjusted for balance and gravity, as initially it started leaning. Pose came out pretty well. A second variant was added.

Based on feedback from the last posts, we modified bow arms and thickened the bows themselves. The Amazons were a bit smaller, and were noticeably weaker in comparison. So they should look closer to a male counterpart bow.

An attempt for a 2nd variant spear pose.

Thickness improvement.

Amazons rocking the cheaper version of greek ware, cool helmet. We understand headless options are wanted, the motivation is usually that helmets are easier to construct LOD. Female hair is trickier in style compared to men's. Some helmetless options are included.

Below is the attempt at more robe like ware. Scythian style combat was usually light to medium armor to promote agility.

Test references for the Amazon bow legs, we wanted to make a variant so Amazons can fire kneeling, arcing, or relatively straight shot. Tim did one with pants, one with pants and robe skirt.

Last bit. It took a while, but we finally nailed down some critical funding for the last part of the project we were aiming to do. In short, we can now do a full mold for cavalry. Using interchangeable heads, and horse poses, we can give people the option to play with mounted archers, or cavalrymen.

The two handed spear ideas seemed like a great way to compliment the riders in terms of lances, or spears, while also making great melee units. Lots of the base shields, and close combat weapons will coincide with the riders through the infantry men, allowing us to take advantage of the frame. Depending on how we do it, we can probably squeeze at least 4-6 horses. We can change the heads up a bit, to give them different individualistic type touches.

Would you like more decorative armor variation in the horse bodies?

Brief question: Amazons, 4:4 Bow and Melee split?

Bows to Melee Ratio
almost 5 years ago – Wed, May 05, 2021 at 11:47:03 PM

Brief question to those who backed.

In priority of bows to melee, which would you prefer?

4 men melee, 4 men bow

or 5 bow to 3 melee?
